Gustav hit Cuba on Saturday and could reach the U.S. Gulf Coast on Monday. FEMA’s chief said that the storm was becoming stronger thus it could escalate to a Category 5 storm which has winds greater than 155 mph by Sunday. This is quite dreadful for residents who might be affected by this.
The dense forests of the western Amazon show evidence of ancient urban settlements. These settlements were once large and complex enough to be considered what we deem today to be urban. From about 1250 to 1650 the European colonists and their illnesses killed most of the people who resided in the largest settlements. These settlements consist of walled towns and small villages.
Ricky Murray lived a miserable life before Gustav was a threat. It’s been about 3 years since Katrina, and although it is known that it caused damages to homes as well as deaths, there are currently no publicly known figures of divorces as a result of this sad event. Murray’s wife is considering a divorce and this has devastated him. He lost his job and recently suffered a heart attack due to stress according to his doctors. Murray blames the problems with his marriage on the hurricane as prior to it there were no conflicts with him and his wife. But once he lost his home and was forced to move into a FEMA trailer him and his spouse started to argue. Murray says he has witnessed other people break up as a result of the hurricane as well. This is tragic to hear.
A mother was found guilty of microwaving her child. The woman seemed to have no reaction when the jury’s verdict was announced, and simply lowered her head. She will face the death penalty once sentenced. Her reason for doing such a terrible thing was that she was scared that her boyfriend would leave her after finding out that the child was not his. That is truly disturbing.
